Woman Taken From Newton Assisted Living Facility Safe At Boston Hospital

BOSTON (CBS) – A 62-year-old woman who went missing from a Newton assisted living facility earlier this week is safe.

Beth Birnbaum was dropped off at Mass. General Hospital late Thursday night by the man who allegedly took her from the CareOne facility in Newton on Tuesday. Newton Police say 55-year-old David Collignon was arrested after he dropped Birnbaum off at the hospital.

Birnbaum suffered a brain aneurysm and stroke earlier in the year and was not allowed to check herself out of the Newton facility.

CareOne employees saw Collignon leaving the building with Birnbaum's belongings and clothing on Tuesday. "They later found her wheelchair and she wasn't in it, so they contacted us," Newton Police Lt. Bruce Apotheker said.

An arrest warrant was issued for Collignon because there was concern that Birnbaum was not receiving the medical attention she needed.

Collignon will be arraigned Friday morning.
