Woman Found Unconscious On Springfield Sidewalk Dies

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — An 18-year-old woman found unconscious on the side of Springfield street has died, and now investigators are trying to figure out why.

The woman was found on the sidewalk with minor head trauma on Tuesday morning. She was taken to Baystate Medical Center where she died unexpectedly later in the day.

Police say she was on her way to catch a bus for her first day of classes at Springfield Technical Community College.

Investigators at first thought she was the victim of a hit and run, but later said there was no evidence she was struck by a vehicle. There is also no evidence she was the victim of an attack.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday. Her name has not been made public.
