BOSTON (CBS) – A Rehoboth woman was arrested after police say she attempted to evade MBTA fare while carrying more than $2,700 in stolen merchandise.

On Thursday around 6:30 p.m. Transit Police witnessed Ashley Desmarias, 28, allegedly "piggybacking" behind a paying customer in an attempt to avoid paying at the Back Bay station.

Desmarias was taken into custody. During the booking process she was found with more than $2,700 worth of merchandise believed to have been stolen from an area department store.

She was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court Friday on charges of receiving stolen property over $250.
