Winter Is Here: Fenway Park Begins Its Frozen Transformation

BOSTON (CBS) -- With an arctic chill about to hit New England, it's only fitting that Fenway Park has begun its transformation from ballpark to hockey rink.

Fenway began it's winter changeover on Wednesday, as crews get it ready for this year's Frozen Fenway series next month. The rink's flooring, underlay chiller and piping and an ice mat will be installed this week, with the boards, benches and penalty boxes going in the week of December 19. The glass and final pieces of the rink's flooring will go in the week of December 26, which is when the ice will be painted and logos will also be installed.

Outdoor hockey returns to Fenway for the first time since 2014 this year, as the ballyard plays host to hockey games and skating events starting on January 3, 2017. This year's schedule will feature games from all levels -- from mites to college hockey.
