Wilmington Crash Closes I-93 And Leaves Woman, 3-Year-Old Injured

WILMINGTON (CBS) -- Interstate 93 has reopened after a serious crash Wednesday sent at least two people to the hospital, one of them a 3-year-old Chelsea girl.

The crash involved a vehicle traveling southbound, which veered left, hit a guardrail and flipped over onto the northbound side near the Concord Street Exit. The girl was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. She was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital. The driver, 32-year-old Chelsea woman, suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to MGH.

The crash shut down all lanes on both sides of the highway to accommodate the medical helicopter. Partial lane closures stayed in place until just after 6 p.m.

The woman and child were the only occupants of the car. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
