Why You Can't Wear Green On The Green Screen

BOSTON (CBS) - It's St. Patrick's Day, but you won't see many meteorologists wearing green on television.

That's because the color directly interferes with their work.

When they bring the audience the forecast maps and stand in front of them, they're actually standing in front of a blank green wall.

The weather forecast graphics are then superimposed on that green screen.

However, if the meteorologist is wearing green, that part of their body also disappears into the maps behind them.
