10-Year-Old Girl Killed, Sister Seriously Hurt In Westport Crash

WESTPORT (CBS) – A 10-year-old New Bedford girl was killed early Sunday morning in a Westport crash that also seriously injured her sister.

Westport Police said they received several "frantic 911 calls" about the 3-car crash on Route 6 in the area of the Route 88 interchange. The crash happened around 2:15 a.m.

The two most seriously injured victims were a 10-year-old girl and her 9-year-old sister.

The older girl was pronounced dead at St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River. The 9-year-old girl is in serious condition at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence.

Initial investigation shows a white Subaru WRX being driven by a 29-year-old New Bedford woman made "minor contact" with the rear of a Toyota Tundra being driven by a 43-year-old New Bedford woman.

The Bristol County District Attorney's office said both vehicles were driving back to New Bedford from a party.

Both drivers pulled into the left travel lane after the initial crash and agreed to deal with the damage later, investigators said. As the women were about to drive off, a Jeep Grand Cherokee being driven by a 29-year-old Fall River man slammed into the back of the Subaru, pushing it into the Tundra.

Both girls were sitting in the back seat of the Subaru.

The crash remains under investigation.
