2-Year-Old Boy Pulled From Weston Swimming Pool

WESTON (CBS) -- A 2-year-old boy was pulled from a backyard swimming pool on Meadowbrook Road in Weston Thursday. The fire chief told WBZ-TV the child was unresponsive when his aunt pulled him out of the pool.

She started CPR, which was continued by fire rescue crews.

Weston Firefighter Jamie Bazaz was one of five EMTs who responded. "We got on the scene and found the nanny and mother with the child who was unresponsive in the recovery position, and we initiated chest compressions...in order to hopefully get water out of his lungs."

The boy's choking turned to crying, which EMTs say is a hopeful sign. Paramedics took the boy to Newton-Wellesley hospital, and he started breathing again during transport. The toddler's condition is uncertain.

Firefighters and EMTs train for water rescues this time of year. With so many people using private pools instead of public swimming areas during the pandemic, they say it's more important than ever to keep all eyes on children.
