Weston Family Welcomes 3-Year-Old Son Home After Lengthy Hospital Stay

BOSTON (CBS) - Doctors and nurses cheered as 3-year-old Christian Caruso walked out of the Franciscan Hospital for Children.

"He's been here a little over a year and he's made a tremendous progress," says Dr. David Leslie. "We're just thrilled to see how he's doing."

An autoimmune response to a virus in August last year left Christian paralyzed and unable to breathe on his own.

Now after spending 13 months of treatment and therapy in the hospital all he can think about is going home and playing with his favorite toy fire truck.

Christian's parents couldn't be happier to celebrate their son's fourth birthday next week in their own home.

"With all four of us under one roof? I don't think we'll ever take it for granted again," Christian's father says.
