Wednesday's Child: 14-Year-Old Veronica

BOSTON (CBS) – Veronica, 14, is a sweet girl of Hispanic descent. She is very shy with new people. After she gets used to someone, however, she is lively and possesses the gift for gab.

Veronica is diagnosed with mild mental retardation and attends school in a specialized classroom. She likes activities that maybe a younger girl might enjoy, such as playing with her American Girl doll and dress-up.

Veronica likes to get her hair done and wear bows and clips in her hair. Veronica also enjoys swimming, roller-skating and ice-skating when she gets the chance. Her favorite TV show is Sponge Bob. She also enjoys playing with her Nintendo DS, as well as listening to music on her iPod and singing along.

Veronica is legally free for adoption and would do best in a single or two-parent female family, without other children, or with older female children.

To learn more about Veronica, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.MAREinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
