Weak Earthquake Recorded In Wakefield

WAKEFIELD (CBS) -- There was an earthquake near Wakefield on Sunday, but there wasn't a whole lot of shaking going on.

Jon Ebel of the Weston Observatory says it was a very weak 0.9 magnitude event, but there's a chance that some may have noticed a slight rumble or heard a boom.

"It's possible that some people did feel it, or more likely for an event of this size, may have more heard it than felt it," he told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

The earthquake hit at about 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.

No damage was reported.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency says Massachusetts is considered to be in a moderate zone for quake activity.
