Water Main Break Shuts Down University Avenue In Norwood

NORWOOD (CBS) - A major water main break has shut down University Avenue in Norwood.

It happened around 1:20 a.m., but crews are rushing just to get the area back to normal before dinnertime.

Norwood police say the road will be closed from Route 1 to Canton Street and the Westwood town line through the Thursday morning commute.

A number of businesses in the area lost water, but only temporarily--the Department of Public Works activated an emergency connection to restore water to all but one office building in the area.

Crews will have the crater covered by gravel by night's end.

The road will be closed again Friday morning at 6 a.m. as crews return to pave over the damage.
