Boston Mayor Kim Janey Gets Vaccinated After Giving First COVID Update
BOSTON (CBS) -- Acting Boston Mayor Kim Janey got her first coronavirus vaccine shot on Friday after she gave her first coronavirus update since assuming office. Janey became eligible after volunteering at a vaccination clinic.
"Over the past few weeks, my staff and I have volunteered at the MLK Towers vaccination clinic, knocking on doors, talking to residents and assisting with appointments," Janey said.

"I'm choosing to get the shot because vaccination is an important tool to protect ourselves, to protect our communities, and all those that we love, and to help stop the pandemic," she continued. "I am trusting the data. I am trusting the science, and I want to lead by example."
The mayor said said it was important for faith leaders, community leaders, and anyone who has influence in the city to get the vaccine when they are eligible so they can lead by example.
Janey also announced the Vaccine Equity Grant Initiative in Boston, which is $1.5 million to "support nonprofit organizations creating equitable access and breaking down barriers to access for Bostonians who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19."
This including direct outreach and support to people who need vaccines, such and transportation and language interpretation, as well as public awareness efforts.
