Man Charged With Beating Woman In Waltham Hotel Held Without Bail

WALTHAM (CBS) – A man who sparked a large manhunt Monday morning in Waltham was ordered held without bail Tuesday.

Darren Dyette, 29, of South Boston, turned himself into Waltham Police on Tuesday morning and was later arraigned in Waltham District Court.

Prosecutors said Dyette viciously beat his girlfriend and then dragged her onto an elevator at the Extended Stay America hotel early Monday morning. When they got off the elevator, he allegedly said he was going get his gun and kill her. Investigators also say Dyette attacked the night manager on his way out. She told police Dyette was laughing and he "had the devil in his eyes."

State and local police launched a massive search by air and ground but could not find him. Dyette now faces several charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and witness intimidation. He was ordered held without bail and is due back in court March 25.

Prosecutors said he has a long criminal history and is also wanted out of Boston on a warrant for malicious destruction of a motor vehicle
