His passenger, Roslindale resident Lillian Grover, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said excessive speed is being investigated as a potential cause of the crash.

Mason was arraigned Monday on charges of fourth offense operating under the influence, motor vehicle homicide, leaving the scene of personal injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and marked lanes violations.

The Walpole resident's attorney asked the judge to set Mason's bail at $25,000.

Instead, the judge agreed with the prosecutions request for $500,000 cash bail. Mason is next scheduled to appear in court on December 16.
