Police Searching For Evidence Related To 2015 Wakefield Murder

WAKEFIELD (CBS) -- State and local officials were searching for evidence in a wooden area Wednesday in connection to a 20 month old murder investigation.

"There was a cruiser when I left last night," said Wakefield resident Kay Buttiglieri.

Not much goes unnoticed on Briarwood Lane, a dead end street in Wakefield, near where the search was taking place.

"It was a little bit scary yes but I have no idea," said Buttiglieri.

So when several state police cruisers showed up for the second day in a row neighbor's curiosity turned into concern.

"Oh God, this was back around nine thirty, quarter of ten and the cruiser came and here comes another one," said Wakefield resident Roberta Jordan.

Jordan's lived on the street for 30 years. She called cops Wednesday morning to find out what was going on.

Her yard backs up to where Mass State Police with the Middlesex DA's office and Wakefield Police were searching National Grid property for evidence in connection to the April 2015 murder of 30-year-old Jeffrey Raphael of Lynn.

The renewed search is bringing back memories of the murder for people who live in what is typically an uneventful neighborhood.

"It was very traumatic it was close to the neighborhood and this is where I grew up and I live right around the corner, so it's scary," said Wakefield resident Gina Bourikas.

Investigators left the scene around 2:00 p.m. Wednesday without saying if they found what they were looking for.
