Wake Held For Fallen Boston Firefighter Mike Kennedy

BOSTON (CBS) – A steady stream of firefighters and first responders paid their respects to fallen Boston Firefighter Michael Kennedy on Wednesday.

Thousands attended the wake for Kennedy at the P.E. Murray Funeral Home in West Roxbury.

Firefighters from around the country have been in town mourning the loss of Kennedy and Lt. Ed Walsh, who were killed in a 9-alarm fire in the Back Bay last week. Earlier Wednesday, a funeral was held for Lt. Ed Walsh in Watertown.

"We've been here since Tuesday, we're just here to honor the fire department this is our family, our extended family, we all share a common thread," said St. Louis Firefighter Andy Stecko.

Kennedy, 33, was a Marine Sergeant, Iraq war veteran, marathon runner and motorcycle enthusiast.

A funeral for Firefighter Kennedy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning at Holy Name Church in West Roxbury.

A fund has been set up to help the firefighters' families.

Donations may be made at the Boston Firefighter's Credit Union website, www.bosfirecu.com, or by mailing checks to the fund care of the Boston Firefighter's Credit Union, 60 Hallet St., Boston MA 02124.
