Vollmer On Detroit Defense, Ndamukong Suh: 'Big Challenge Ahead Of Us'

BOSTON (CBS) - 98.5 The Sports Hub's Andy Gresh and Scott Zolak caught up with Patriots right tackle Sebastian Vollmer Wednesday afternoon.

This tough stretch of games the Patriots are on has been talked about ad nauseam, but perhaps no opponent this season presents a bigger challenge on the defensive side of the ball than the Detroit Lions.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said earlier today the defensive statistics for the Lions "speak for themselves" and that they're a "dominant and disruptive" unit.

The stats certainly back that up.

Detroit leads the league in yards allowed per game and points allowed per game, and is top 10 in both sacks and interceptions.

Vollmer talked about the problems the Lions present, specifically their formidable defensive line.

"Obviously we have a huge challenge now ahead of us. Detroit obviously has a good front, so we'll see how we hold up against them on Sunday. It starts with their front seven. They have a really good defensive line. You mentioned Suh, but he's not the only one in there," said Vollmer. "As an offensive line we definitely have to hold up in there. We have to protect well and give Tom [Brady] some time. Definitely a good defensive line. We got to block 'em."
