Video Shows Visually-Impaired Man Pulled From Park Street Tracks
BOSTON (CBS) -- Officials say a 61-year-old visually-impaired man who fell onto the Red Line tracks was pulled to safety Friday morning at the MBTA Park Street Station.
Reggie Clark fell onto the tracks shortly after the Ashmont-bound train left Park heading southbound at 9:54 a.m., according to MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo.
Surveillance video shows the man on the yellow strip that runs along the tracks. It's brightly colored to alert riders they are at the edge of the platform, and it is also embedded with bumps to warn the visually-impaired.
"(That's) really touching," said Passenger Amy Trottier of the good Samaritans' efforts. "That's something."
Transit Police Lt. Richard Sullivan and Pesaturo say the man made contact with the 3rd rail, but was not hurt.
He was taken to Tufts Medical Center for precautionary measures and has since been released.
No train was immediately on approach when the incident happened.
Six hundred volts of electricity power the tracks. T employees shut down power briefly until the tracks were cleared.
