Vietnam-Era Grenades Found In Dudley Clothing Donation Bin

DUDLEY (CBS) –Three inactive grenades were found inside a clothing and toy donation bin in Dudley on Tuesday afternoon.

Police and firefighters arrived at the intersection of Airport Road and Alton Drive around 3 p.m.

The suspicious items were found in a box that included toys, so it was unclear initially if they were real.

As a result of the incident, the Cumberland Farms on West Main Street was temporarily closed and traffic was detoured in the area while the Massachusetts State Police bomb squad was called.

After a search, bomb squad members determined the items were Vietnam-era military devices.

The grenades were inspected and found to be inactive. They were removed from the scene and transported to another location.

Police are unsure how the items were placed into the clothing bin.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Dudley Police Department at (508) 943-4411.
