Two Killed After Dump Truck, Car Collide In Uxbridge

UXBRIDGE (CBS) -- A head-on crash between a dump truck and car killed both drivers and shut down Route 16 in Uxbridge Wednesday morning. It happened just before 11 a.m. near the Mendon town line.

Police said a Hyundai Elantra and a fully loaded dump truck collided on Uxbridge Road. Both drivers have died, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early, Jr. Their identities have not yet been released.

SkyEye footage showed a dump truck laying on its side off the road and a car with serious front-end damage.

Uxbridge Police Chief Marc Montminy said it's uncommon to see accidents on the stretch of road.

"This is a straight road with moderate speeds," Montminy said. "We don't see a lot of accidents here. It's kind of unusual to have a head on collision particularly in this area."

Police said it's not yet known what caused the crash, which is under investigation.
