Two UNH Students Charged After Stabbing Near Campus

DURHAM, N.H. (CBS) – Two men were arrested early Saturday morning, charged with stabbing a fellow University of New Hampshire student near campus.

Durham Police said a 20-year-old UNH student was stabbed just after midnight.

The victim was treated and rushed to an area hospital. He underwent surgery for two stab wounds, but is listed in stable condition.

Following the stabbing, police arrested Matthew Gibbons, 20, and Eric Denning, 21, both of Salem, N.H.

Gibbons was charged with first degree assault. He is being held on $100,000 cash bail.

Denning faces second degree assault and criminal liability charges. He is being held on $50,000 cash bail.

Both students are expected to be arraigned Monday in Stafford Country Superior Court.
