UMass Student Found Dead On Amherst Campus

AMHERST (CBS) -- The University of Massachusetts Amherst said a student from Newton was found dead in his room on campus Wednesday.

The university said UMass Police found Jonathan Shaw, 24, had passed away in his dorm room after they conducted a well-being check Wednesday around 11:49 a.m. They said the unattended death was not suspicious in nature.

UMass said Shaw was a senior majoring in Mathematics.

"We extend our sincere condolences to Jonathan's family and friends," read a message from the university sent to the campus community later Wednesday.
