Ty Law Named Semifinalist For 2017 Pro Football Hall Of Fame

BOSTON (CBS) -- Former Patriots cornerback Ty Law was announced as one of 26 semifinalists for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Wednesday, joining many of his peers that he competed against over the course of his 15-year career.

Law won three Super Bowl championships with the Patriots in 2001, 2003, and 2004. Though he played only seven games and missed the playoffs due to injury in 2004, Law played a major role on the defense in 2001 and 2003. Among his most notable playoff accomplishments are his interception that he returned for a touchdown against the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI and his three-interception performance against Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts in the 2003 AFC Championship Game at Gillette Stadium.

Other notable names on the list of Hall of Fame semifinalists are running back LaDainian Tomlinson, wide receiver Terrell Owens, defensive end Jason Taylor, defensive back Darren Woodson, and quarterback Kurt Warner, who threw the pick-six to Ty Law in the Super Bowl. Here is the full list, via the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Twitter:

The list of 26 semifinalists will be narrowed down to 18 finalists, then 10, then five, at the Hall of Fame selection meeting in February. At that point, each of the five finalists must receive at least 80 percent of "yes" votes to earn enshrinement. So Law and the 25 other semifinalists have a long way to go.

Law made the Pro Bowl five times in his career and was also named to five All-NFL teams. He led the league in interceptions twice: in 1998 with the Patriots, and in 2005 as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. He's already enshrined in the Patriots Hall of Fame; now, it appears that a bust in Canton could be next.
