Coast Guard Frees Sea Turtle From Fishing Line

FALMOUTH (AP) — The Coast Guard and local marine specialists have freed a leatherback sea turtle that was entangled in fishing line off the coast of Cape Cod.

Coast Guard officials say they were notified around 8:15 a.m. Sunday that a turtle was wrapped in line from a lobster pot near Woods Hole.

The Coast Guard launched a 45-foot rescue boat from Station Woods Hole with a crew including two entanglement specialists from the Provincetown-based Center for Coastal Studies. The turtle was freed by 9:15 a.m.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Kurt Chlebek says the turtle swam away and appeared to be in good health.
