Gov. Baker: Trump's Call To Bar Muslims From US 'Ridiculous'

BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Charlie Baker is condemning Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump's call for a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States."

Baker, also a Republican, reacted on Monday after being shown a transcript of Trump's statement.

Baker called the proposal "ridiculous" and said he would never support it, saying it was "a really bad idea."

The governor said Trump's idea was in conflict with values that people in the U.S. hold most dear — including the right to practice their religion peacefully.

Baker has mostly tried to steer clear of national politics during the presidential campaign, saying he's focused on the nuts and bolts of his job as governor.
