Heavy rain for some in New England as Ophelia makes landfall Saturday morning

BOSTON - Here we go again...for the second weekend in a row we will be talking about a tropical system near the East Coast.

The WBZ Weather Team has issued a NEXT Weather Alert for some heavy rainfall in association with the impending Tropical Storm Ophelia.

As of 2 p.m. Friday, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) upgraded this storm to "Ophelia." With the NHC's latest advisory Saturday morning, Ophelia made landfall as a tropical storm near Emerald Isle, North Carolina. NHC notes that an observation in Cape Lookout reported sustained winds at 61 mph.

Farther north into New England, there will still be some impacts to our weekend forecast.  There is a good chance of between 1-3" in most of southern New England between Saturday and Monday, especially south of the Mass Pike into southeastern Mass.  x

Highest risk of steady/heavy rain comes Saturday midday through evening and again later on Sunday into Monday. Just like it played out this previous week, we'll clear out nicely for Tuesday, stretching right into Friday.
