Possible tornado causes damage in New Hampshire

ROXBURY, N.H.– A possible tornado was reported by a trained spotter in Roxbury, New Hampshire, just south of Keene, leaving damage throughout the area Thursday afternoon. A tornado warning was issued for part of Hillsboro and Cheshire counties in New Hampshire.

Trees and wires were brought down in parts of Dublin and Marlboro, New Hampshire.

At Dublin School, a summer camp was underway when winds picked up, ominous clouds moved in and the lights started flickering. Campers took cover when they heard trees snapping

"It was super quick," said Jackie Kenney, who works at Dublin School. "The quad of our campus was just swirling, there was lots of debris going, trees looked like they were flying, so I went into the bathroom. And within maybe 30 seconds, it was pretty calm outside."

It was all over in a matter of minutes, but the damage to the school left windows blown out, roof shingles ripped off and trees everywhere.

Dublin police said Route 101 is closed in the area of Lake Road in both directions due to large trees, wires, and a snapped telephone pole blocking the roadway. Drivers should seek alternative routes.

"I was inside working in our apartment and I just heard a loud noise and peeked out the window and saw a tree get ripped out of the ground," said Dublin resident Steven Kucklick. "At that point, I was like, it's time for me to get into the bathroom and get into the tub. So I went and sat in the tub for like 30 seconds and it had blown over by then. I've been here for three years, this is my first time seeing it. It was reminiscent of a hurricane, that's kind of what it felt like."

Spotters also reported a funnel cloud in nearby Keene. The National Weather Service said it will survey the damage "near Keene to Dublin" on Friday morning.
