Torey Krug On Bruins Missing Playoffs: 'It Sucks'

BOSTON (CBS) - Instead of preparing for a first round opponent in the NHL playoffs, the Boston Bruins spent their Monday cleaning out their lockers as their season ended with a whimper Saturday night in Tampa Bay.

98.5 The Sports Hub's Zolak & Bertrand were joined by defenseman Torey Krug this afternoon to discuss the disappointing end to their 2014-15 season.

"To be honest, it sucks. Nobody obviously expected to be in this position, and still it doesn't feel too real," Krug said. "When the weather gets nice out you want to be playing hockey. You don't want to be enjoying the weather sitting on a patio somewhere, so for us it's not a good feeling."

The B's were in a precarious spot heading into Saturday, needing a loss by Ottawa in regulation or a Pittsburgh loss just to stay alive. Those things did not happen, and ultimately it wouldn't matter anyways because Boston ended up losing 3-2 to the Lightning.

The reality now sets in that this Bruins team will have a much different makeup for 2015-16.

"We're always under evaluation as professional athletes, as it is in every sport. We failed at our job this year. We didn't get in the playoffs and we didn't have the chance to win the Stanley Cup, and ultimately that's what we're here to do," Krug told Zolak and Bertrand. "Whenever you fail there's opportunity for a chance for change, and that's up to the people that make those decisions. Whatever they decide will be in the best interest of the team moving forward, and we have to find something to learn from this.

"It sucks right now. It stings. It's not a good feeling. I'm kind of sick having to watch hockey now and not be a part of the playoffs. We have to find a way to make sure we learn from it and next year we don't take anything for granted; take this year as a slap in the face and move on from it."
