Tom Menino's Granddaughter Walks Marathon Route In Memory Of Former Mayor

BOSTON (CBS) - Thousands of walkers took part in the 27th annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk on Sunday.

Although the city of Boston lost him nearly a year ago, the legacy of former mayor Tom Menino lives on.

Today his granddaughter Olivia Fenton joined the masses and walked for "Team Menino" and in honor of her grandfather.

"I am so excited to be able to finish, but I am more excited to honor him in special way because it is a journey," Olivia said.

The 16 year old high school junior says the walk was tough but she thought of her grandfather the whole way.

"All day it was going through my head, people were coming up to me, thanking me for doing it," Olivia said.

More than eight thousand walkers took part in the 26.2 mile trek. The walk raised more than $8 million dollars for the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

"I am so thankful he was in my life and leave a mark on me and a mark on this city," Olivia said.
