Maine Television Meteorologist Found Dead

PORTLAND, Maine (CBS/AP) — A popular television meteorologist in Maine's largest city has been found dead.

Tom Johnston of WCSH-TV in Portland was reported missing early Monday morning after he failed to return from a weekend event at the Sunday River ski resort.

Old Orchard Beach Police Detective Sgt. David Hemingway said Johnston was considered a missing person, and there was no indication that he was in danger. His last social media postings were made on Saturday, when a storm produced heavy snow in parts of Maine.

WCSH announced on its website that Johnston's body was found in Auburn, Maine Thursday night. He died of an apparent suicide, police told the station.

Tom Johnston was 46 years old.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Tom's family. We will miss that great laugh of his, his fierce competitive spirit and his love for all things weather-related," WCSH said in a statement.

It also posted this number to the National Suicide Prevention Hotline (1-800-273-8255), which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
