Keller @ Large: Sometimes Good Guys Win

BOSTON (CBS) - Thank goodness, it's over with.

I'm sure there will be more news stories about the NFL's assault on Tom Brady. The appeal; the dismissal of the appeal; the dismissal of Roger Goodell, and so on.

But the daily grind of endless speculation and legal wrangling is over, and not a moment too soon.

So, what do you tell your kids about what transpired?

Think of it as a teachable moment, an opportunity to gently educate them about the darker side of humanity and how to handle it if and when they encounter it later in life.

First of all, Jane and Johnny, if you are lucky enough to be successful in life, you will find that your success is intolerable to a hopefully small number of bitter, jealous losers. They may achieve a measure of success of their own, but because you are more successful, they will resent you, nurse their grievances, and live for the opportunity to try to take you down a notch.

The owners and coaches of the Ravens, the Colts, the Jets, the Texans, take your pick, they just can't stand the fact that the Patriots and Brady have mostly left them in the dust over the years, and this was their big chance to "get even."

Whoops.

Left in the dust again.

And then, Johnny and Jane, there are the would-be big-shots in life, people like Commissioner Goodell and his overpaid lawyers who care far more about status, clout, and flexing their muscles than they ever will about fairness and justice.

When you grow up, you will know who these people are, and you should do your best to avoid them.

But if you can't, do what Tom Brady did, and fight back when they go after you.

Because sometimes, the good guys do win.
