Tom Brady Made A Lasting Impression On Kevin Durant

BOSTON (CBS) -- In the end, even the presence of Tom Brady wasn't enough to convince Kevin Durant to sign with the Boston Celtics.

But sitting in a room with Brady certainly resonated with the NBA superstar, if that's any consolation prize for Celtics fans. It nearly swayed his decision, before Durant ultimately chose the Golden State Warriors a few days later.

"I was ready to just say, 'OK, let's go,'" Durant said of meeting Brady on Monday, following USA Basketball's first official practice in Las Vegas. "Just seeing someone so successful at his craft. He's a great ambassador for the game of football and the city of Boston. It's great to be in the presence of such greatness."

But when all of his meetings in the Hamptons were over, even getting a sales pitch from a four-time Super Bowl champ and three-time Super Bowl MVP wasn't enough to get Durant to pick the Celtics.

"I knew I couldn't let that distract me," he said. "But he was great. It was great to see him."

While he'll form a super team with Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson in Golden State, Durant was impressed with what the Celtics had to offer.

"I just like the way they play," he said. "I like their coach [Brad Stevens]. I feel they have some good pieces."

Those are some very kind words from Durant on all fronts, and he said picking the Warriors was the most difficult decision he's ever made. But in the end, kind words don't put Durant in green, and really, that's all that would matter.
