Tobin Bridge Tolls Going All-Electronic

BOSTON (CBS) – Tolling on the Tobin Bridge will be converted to an all-electronic format prior to Monday morning's commute.

MassDOT says the new toll system will eliminate the need for customers to pay the toll in cash.

The system is equipped to read E-ZPass transponders. Tolls for those vehicles will be $2.50.

For vehicles without a transponder, a pay-by-plate system will be used.  A photograph of the license plate will be taken and a bill sent to the registered owner for a $3.

For commercial vehicles, those with an E-ZPass will pay the current rates. Commercial pay-by-plate customers will be charged an additional 50 cents.
