Tobin Bridge Drivers Adjust To New Traffic Changes

BOSTON (CBS) - There's a new traffic pattern on the southbound Tobin Bridge.

As drivers head into Boston, they're dealing with a new lane configuration.

The two left toll booth lanes are now blocked.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Don Huff reports

It's part of the ongoing bridge work as MassDOT gets ready remove the entire toll plaza later this year.

"We want commuters using the Tobin Bridge southbound to be aware they're going to see a new configuration at the toll booths. Maybe they always went left or they stayed straight or went off to the right. So they need to pay attention. It will be different than what they're used to." MassDOT spokeswoman Sara Lavoie told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

"By blocking these two lanes, we're really going to get a good look at what needs to happen, what sort of equipment is in the pavement, maybe electrical systems that we'll need to remove, once we are all electronic and the toll booths come down."

The Tobin tolls will be all electronic – that means no cash – beginning this summer.
