Thornton Fined For Unsportsmanlike Conduct

BOSTON (CBS) --- Boston Bruins forward Shawn Thornton has been fined $2,820.52 for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The penalty stems from Game 5 of the Second Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs series. Late in what was eventually a 4-2 Bruins victory, P.K Subban skated with the puck in front of the Boston bench. TV cameras showed Shawn Thornton squirt a water bottle from the bench as Subban skated by.

During a media availability Sunday, Thornton said he would pay the fine and move on.

"I got caught up in the moment," he said. "I'm sorry the silly incident overshadowed how my teammates played."

No penalty was assessed on the play at the time. Thornton's fine is the maximum allowed under the CBA. The fine money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
