Thieves Targeting Distracted People In Lawrence

LAWRENCE (CBS) --- Thieves in Lawrence are allegedly targeting people, distracted by anything from carrying groceries to getting out of their cars.

The first armed robbery happened on Willow Street, followed by a similar incident on Hancock Street. Police say there was a failed attempt on Dorchester Street, the same night.

In all three incidents, the two people were dressed in black and wore ski masks. A weapon was shown in one robbery. Police say they got away in a dark colored Ford with loud exhaust.

Police say each time, the victim was distracted by their phone, carrying groceries or getting out of their car.

Chief James Fitzpatrick says it's part of a new trend his department is seeing where robberies are happening in neighborhoods with a getaway vehicle waiting a block away.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lawrence Police.
