BOSTON (CBS) -- It was 96 years ago today that the Red Sox sold Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees.

Thankfully in Boston we're no longer living the "Curse Of The Bambino," with a trio of World Series championships since 2004 to bury what will go down as one of the worst transactions in the history of sports. But for those first 86 years, it was hard for Red Sox fans to live down their team selling off one of the best players in the game so their owner could finance a series of Broadway plays.

Even by 1919 standards, Ruth was a bargain for the Yankees at $125,000. Now take a look at what the transaction would look like if it were made 2015. Even in this day and age, the Yankees committed highway robbery:
