Texting Not Coming To Movie Theaters After All, AMC Says

LEAWOOD, Kan. (CBS) -- Put those phones away: Shortly after the head of AMC suggested that texting may soon be coming to the movies, the nation's largest theater chain has changed course.

AMC said in a statement Friday morning that after getting a flood of negative feedback, "that idea has been sent to the cutting room floor."

"With your advice in hand, there will be NO TEXTING ALLOWED in any of the auditoriums at AMC Theatres. Not today, not tomorrow and not in the foreseeable future," AMC said.

NO TEXTING AT AMC THEATRES. Won't happen. You spoke. We listened. Quickly, that idea has been sent to the cutting room floor.

In an interview with Variety earlier this week, AMC's chief executive said they were trying to appeal to millennials who are almost never separated from their tiny screens. One option being considered was designating some theaters as "texting friendly."

Instead, AMC says it will focus on making upgrades to its theaters.
