Tewksbury Construction Worker Seriously Hurt By Drunk Driver, Police Say

TEWKSBURY (CBS) -- A construction worker was seriously hurt after being struck by an alleged drunk driver on Route 38 early Friday morning in Tewksbury.

Domenic Cataldo, 29, of Tewksbury, has been charged with operating under the influence of liquor resulting in serious injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license.

Cataldo is accused of hitting the Brox Construction Company worker, who was working on an overnight road construction project, around 2:30 a.m.

The 25-year-old Kingston man was rushed to Lowell General Hospital.

He was then MedFlighted to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

Police say the victim is in critical condition.

Route 38 was shut down for about three hours while police investigated.

State Police assisted Tewksbury police with their investigation.

Catalado was scheduled to be arraigned at Lowell District Court on Friday.
