Teen Killed By Commuter Rail Train In Newton Identified

NEWTON (CBS) -- The teen struck and killed by an MBTA Commuter Rail train in Newton Friday night has been identified.

Eli Pilat, 14, was part of the class of 2020 at Lincoln Sudbury High School.

He was struck by an inbound Framingham/Worcester train around 8:45 p.m. Friday.

In a letter to staff and students' families, Lincoln Sudbury Regional School District said Pilat had only just moved to Sudbury from the town of Needham.

"While we were just getting to know Eli here at LS we were already beginning to appreciate his love of music and strong sense of self-advocacy," wrote Superintendent Bella Wong in the letter. "I extend our deepest sympathy and compassion to Eli's family during this time of grief for their tragic loss."

She also said counseling services would be available for students Monday.

The area where Pilat was hit is often used as a cut through, although Transit Police would only say the teenager was trespassing.

The Middlesex District Attorney's office said foul play is not suspected.
