Teen Drowned In Georgetown Pond Identified

GEORGETOWN (AP) — A teenager has drowned while swimming in a Georgetown pond.

Authorities on Sunday identified the victim as 17-year-old Lawrence resident Dewel Ortiz.

Police responded to Pentucket Pond near the American Legion Park just before 3 p.m. Saturday for a report of a missing swimmer. Rescue crews pulled Ortiz's body from about 15 feet of water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Georgetown police and the Beverly Dive Team were called to Pentucket Pond Saturday after receiving a report of a teen who didn't resurface. (WBZ-TV)

It's unclear whether a lifeguard was on duty at the time.

The investigation into the drowning is ongoing.
