Teen Run Over By SUV In Canton

CANTON (CBS) – A 16-year-old Canton boy was gravely injured in a bizarre car accident on Friday evening.

Police said the teen was behind the wheel of a Jeep Commander in front of his house when it appears he accidentally put the vehicle in reverse. Officers said the driver's side door was still open and knocked a hole in a fence.

The teen was partially thrown from the vehicle and then run over. The car did a u-shape in reverse and stopped when it hit the house across the street.

First responders initially planned to med-flight the boy to a Boston hospital. They then decided to transport him by ambulance to Norwood Hospital.

State police investigators were called to the scene on Chapel Street. The house had minimal damage.

Canton's police chief called it a "tragic accident." The boy's name was not released Friday night.
