Teacher Charged With Raping Norwood Child Pleads Not Guilty At Arraignment

DEDHAM (CBS) -- A 50-year-old teacher at a Walpole school charged with raping a Norwood child pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Friday in Dedham District Court.

John Williamson, of Medway, is facing charges of indecent assault and battery of a child under 14, rape of a child with force, and aggravated statutory rape of a child, according to David Traub, a spokesman for the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office.

The charges stem from a recent incident in Norwood. Williamson was arrested by Norwood police.

Authorities have not said when and where the alleged incident took place.

The child is known to Williamson, officials say. The child's age and gender have not been released by authorities.

Williamson is a teacher at the Norfolk County Agricultural High School in Walpole. He is listed as an instructor of plant, environmental and mechanical technology, according to the staff directory on the school's website.

A judge ordered Williamson held on $10,000 cash bail at Norfolk County Jail in Dedham.

He is scheduled to appear in court on August 14.
