UMass Boston Soccer Players Face Discipline After Vulgar Tweets To Taylor Twellman

BOSTON (CBS) – Three UMass Boston soccer players face discipline after getting into a social media argument about concussions with former New England Revolution player Taylor Twellman.

Twellman, who has been active in recent years speaking about the need to prevent concussions in sports, appeared on television to discuss newly revealed plans to ban headers in youth soccer.

On Wednesday, Twellman shared screen shots of some of the Twitter responses, which included vulgar language directed at him.

Among the Twitter users criticizing Twellman were three UMass Boston men's soccer players.

Charlie Titus, the school's Director of Athletics, issued a statement saying the students face disciplinary action.

"We hold our student-athletes to the highest standards of conduct and do not tolerate this kind of behavior on social media, or anywhere else," Titus said.

"These comments in no way reflect the views of the university or the men's soccer program. UMass Boston applauds Taylor for the important work he is doing to raise awareness of head injuries in soccer."

It is not clear what discipline the players face.
