2 Taunton Men Charged With Murder In 2010 Slaying

TAUNTON, Mass. (AP) — Authorities have charged two Taunton men with murder in connection with a fatal shooting in the city five years ago.

Jeremy Rhoden and Donnelle Bates were held without bail at their arraignments Tuesday after pleading not guilty to charges stemming from the July 2010 death of 33-year-old Joseph Dugan.

Dugan was shot in the head as he talked outside a city apartment.

Prosecutors say the shooting may have been a case of mistaken identity. They allege the 25-year-old Rhoden and the 26-year-old Bates were seeking revenge for the stabbing death of 17-year-old Tigan Hollingsworth just two weeks prior, but there is no known connection between Dugan and Hollingsworth.

Authorities say based on the evidence, they think Rhoden fired the gun.

Lawyers for both defendants' refused comment.
