Flames shoot from Swiss Air Lines plane engine at Logan Airport in Boston, video shows

Video shows flames shoot out of airplane engine on Logan Airport runway

A Swiss Air Lines flight had to abort takeoff at Boston Logan International Airport Tuesday evening after experiencing an issue with an engine. Video posted online by Logan in Flight showed flames shooting out the back of the right engine as the plane started accelerating down the runway.

It happened around 6:25 p.m. as flight LX55 was taking off for Zurich, Switzerland.

"We can confirm that on flight LX55 from Boston to Zurich, there was a problem with the right engine during takeoff. The crew immediately aborted the takeoff. The passengers were able to disembark the aircraft regularly after it had taxied back to the gate," Swiss Air Lines told WBZ-TV in a statement on Wednesday.

According to Swiss Air Lines, there were 223 passengers and 13 crew members on board at the time. No injuries were reported.

"Investigations into the exact nature of the engine problem are currently underway. However, depending on the problem with an engine, it is possible that a flame may be visible for a brief moment," Swiss Air Lines said.

In a statement, the FAA said some arrivals to the airport were paused before the plane taxied off the runway. The FAA said it will investigate the incident.
