Suspects Pose As Town Employees In Attempt To Steal From Watertown Homes

WATERTOWN (CBS) – Police in Watertown are warning residents about recently reported scams during which suspects pose as members of the Water Department in an attempt to steal items from homes.

In a Monday Facebook post, Watertown police said they have been called for two incidents where two people knock on a home's door while dressed like a member of the Water Department.

The two people tell the homeowner they need to go inside the home and check water pipes.

While one person attempts to distract the resident, the other searches for jewelry or other items to take, police said.

"Please be aware of this scam and do not let anyone into your residence without confirming through the Department of Public Works or the Police Department. These individuals are doing this in many other cities and towns in the Boston area," Watertown police said.
