Suspect In Brockton Murder Indicted

BROCKTON, Mass. (CBS/AP) — The suspect in a fatal shooting in Brockton last year has been indicted on a murder charge.

Prosecutors say 25-year-old Michael Starks shot 34-year-old Helmae Zewdu on Oct. 5 near Cross Street at Eagle Avenue in Brockton at 2:27 a.m.

Zewdu's body was found on Eagle Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Starks was also indicted for attempted murder and other charges in the shooting of his girlfriend's mother just hours before.

Prosecutors say he was linked to Zewdu's killing through ballistics evidence from the first shooting.

He has been held without bail since his district court arraignment. His Superior Court arraignment has not been scheduled.
