Study: Thanksgiving Traffic Worst In Boston Tuesday Before Holiday

BOSTON (CBS) – For most people across the country, the day before Thanksgiving is the worst day of the year to travel.

But not in Boston or Providence.

According to new research from Google Maps, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving is the worst day in the Boston area and the Saturday after the holiday is the worst in the Providence area.

Researchers said they looked at traffic conditions in 21 cities from the Monday before Thanksgiving through the Sunday after Thanksgiving for both 2012 and 2013.

They also found that if you have to travel on Wednesday, the best time to leave is before 2 p.m. or after 7 p.m.

The best day to get to your destination – Thanksgiving day, according to researchers.

They also claim Sunday is a better day to return home because traffic can be up to 40-percent worse on Saturday.
